Metagest provides betaine HCI, a source of hydochloric acid necessary to initiate the digestion process. Betaine HCL is used to treat a condition known as hypochlorhydria, meaning the parietal cells in the stomach are no longer producing enough acid. Many are surprised to learn that most people who have recurrent heartburn actually do not make enough stomach acid. Other signs and symptoms that can be attributed to hypochlorhydria include eczema, cystic acne, candidiasis, chronic gas and bloating, gas with a strong odor, food allergies, mineral deficiencies, amino acid deficiencies and indirect bone loss. Metagest also contains the proteolytic enzyme, pepsin, top aid in protein digestion as well as gentian root, an herbal bitter traditionally used to support digestion. Do not take betaine HCL if you have an ulcer or while taking NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofin, motrin, vioxx, etc.)
