Calcium is the most plentiful mineral in the body. It is essential in the formation of bones and teeth and important in preventing osteoporosis. It also plays a role in blood clotting, nerve transmission and in muscle contraction. Calcium appears to help maintain normal blood pressure levels. Magnesium helps to relax smooth muscle, and in so doing can improve blood flow to the heart. It assists in maintaining blood pressure in a normal range, and it is needed for formation of bone, protein and fatty acids. It activates B vitamins and is utilized in the formation of ATP. Magnesium is also helpful in treating fatigue, stress and/or frustration, occasional anxiety, and PMS.
